Getting refund from Flipkart Travel for a cancelled Indigo Flight

Covid-19 came into our lives unexpected and uninvited, disrupting our daily lifestyle. If you are one of those who had booked an Indigo domestic flight which got cancelled and you are worried about your refund, you are in the right place.


If your flight is cancelled by the Indigo airlines, you are entitled to get the full refund, however, if you would have booked from Flipkart Travel, the process is not straight forward and the money won't get credited to your actual payment source without any action from your end. So let's look at the steps you need to perform to get your full refund.


How to know if your flight got cancelled ?

Normally if Indigo cancels a flight, they will notify you via message, mail or call, depending on the mode of contacts you have provided while booking the ticket, 10 to 2 days prior to your scheduled flight date. Alternatively, you can check your flight status online from Indigo website or mobile application. You can even call Indigo helpline number or message them to confirm your status. Once your flight is cancelled you will be provided with two options, either to reschedule your flight without any extra cost or to get the full refund. Once you select to get refund, Indigo airlines will refund your amount to the source of booking i.e. in this case Flipkart Travel. However, Flipkart Travel, the actual source where you booked the ticket, strangely remains unaware of this status and needs you to cancel the ticket manually from their website or application in case you want the refund. We will look into the detailed steps that needs to be followed for the cancellation.


Steps to cancel your ticket from Flipkart Travel and claim refund.

  1. First ensure that your ticket is cancelled by Indigo and you have opted for a refund and not reschedule. If possible keep a screenshot of the cancelled flight ticket and your chosen option.

  2. Go to Flipkart -> Orders -> Travel bookings.

  3. Select Cancel flight option. In reason select "Cancelled by Airlines", this is required to notify Flipkart travels that the flight is cancelled by Indigo.

  4. Once this is done, your request will be forwarded to Flipkart Travel for approval. The approval process normally takes 2-4 hours. You will be notified about the request and approval by Flipkart via mail and message.

  5. Post approval the amount will be credited to your original payment source within 2 days. Normally Flipkart is quite quick with their refund strategies and most of time it happens instantly. Please verify the same on your payment source.

Points to Note

  1. In case you used any SuperCoins while booking, the same would be refunded in the form of SuperCoins itself and not cash.

  2. Only the amount you paid will be refunded, i.e. in case you enjoyed any discounts while booking would not be refunded additionally.

  3. If you had a return trip and only one way is cancelled by Indigo, you can call Indigo Airlines and ask them to cancel your return trip too as your 'go' ticket was cancelled. They are normally very helpful and will do the same.

  4. In Flipkart Travel you need to cancel both tickets (in case of return trip) and select the same option "Cancelled by Airlines".
